1) PLAN FOR THE ADVENTURE

While many who adventure embrace spontaneity, it can help both you and your pup to have a plan in place when taking them along. This can help to ensure they remain safe and entertained while traveling to the location and beyond.

  • Know the route towards your camp spot and plan safe pull over locations to allow for stretches and bathroom breaks.

  • Pack some of their favorite toys, blankets or treats, to allow for some home comfort and familiarity.

  • Bring a little more food and water than you think you might need.

  • Plan dog friendly activities to ensure you both maximize your fun together.

2) STAY WITH YOUR PUP

Try to eliminate leaving your dog unattended, whether at the campsite, a dog park or especially in your vehicle.

Remember you brought them along to be apart of the adventure and while your dog may act a certain way at home where they are comfortable, being around unfamiliar scents and/or possibly unfamiliar animals may lead to irregular behavior or stress.

3) CHECK THEIR GEAR

Your standard dog leash or collar may work well enough for home use and around the block walks, but outdoor adventures may require more sturdy gear. Ensure your leashes, collars, clasps, harnesses, etc are in tip top shape and maybe also include some outdoor enhancements like high visibility reflective material, LED lights or anti-rust clips to help with all weather situations and playtime in the lakes.

4) MEDICAL CHECK UP

It is great practice to ensure your pups medication is up to date. Ticks are a growing threat to ourselves and our furry friends. A check up, from the neck up, will go a long way to making sure the adventure doesn't necessarily follow you home.

5) TOYS!

Just like you may require additional stimulation to keep you from getting bored when sitting

beside a beautiful lake all day, so may your pups. Don't leave entertainment to chance, as weather can force you inside a tent for long periods at a time or your pup may just grow bored and wish to chew on their favorite rope, plushie or safety blanket.

*BONUS - WILDLIFE

Take extra precaution when out and remain on the lookout for your pups. Don't allow them to drink from stagnant water and be cautious of lakes, ponds or river water. Try to know what plants may be found in the area you'll be visiting and understand the potential for wild animals who may reside in the area to best keep your best buds safe!

We hope these tips help you and your pups get the most joy on your next trip out and if you have further suggestions of your own, please add a comment down below to share with the community!
